Nafent’s favourite (trail running) route in S’Agaró

The Camí de Ronda is not only fantastic for hiking, but also for trail running. Starting from Hotel Barcarola in S’Agaró and following Nafent’s favourite running route in the area, you pass some of the greatest highlights of this iconic coastal path in Catalonia.

The Camí de Ronda traces the rugged edge of Catalonia’s Costa Brava, linking small coves, fishing villages and stretches of pine forest, all with constant views of the Mediterranean. Originally used by fishermen and coastal guards, the path has evolved into one of the most varied routes in the region to explore on foot. The terrain shifts constantly, from compact dirt and rocky steps to wooden walkways and short beach crossings, keeping the rhythm broken but engaging.

What makes it stand out is how accessible yet wild it feels. You can start a run straight from Hotel Barcarola in S’Agaró and within a minute find yourself on narrow trails above turquoise water, with barely anyone around during early morning hours. The rolling profile adds up quickly, turning even moderate distances into solid sessions. The staircases on this particular route, starting from the hotel, can become demanding over time.

Early mornings work best, when the light is soft, the coast is quiet and a small dose of caffeine has settled in your system. You can link sections depending on how long you want to run, or shorten the route as needed. Nafent’s favourite route from Hotel Barcarola is no different in that sense.

You first head out towards the beach, then follow the Camí de Ronda eastwards. After three kilometres and the famous Mirador de S’Agaró, the route climbs along a narrow forest path, leaving the Mediterranean views behind for a while. After crossing the main road that connects the larger inland Catalan towns, the track continues through forested areas, eventually reaching the Vies Verdes that lead into Sant Feliu de Guíxols.

There is a short urban section that may interrupt your rhythm before you return to one of the most beautiful stretches of the Camí de Ronda, with more open views, small coves for a quick dip, or even the chance to do intervals on the staircases.

Running here is varied and, above all, enjoyable. Returning to Hotel Barcarola afterwards feels well earned. The hotel offers an extensive breakfast and is well suited to athletes, with specific treatments, a well-equipped gym and a swimming pool. Just one hundred metres from the beautiful Platja de Sant Pol, it allows you to combine quality running with proper recovery.
