SKS’ new MIA and TOM multitools: practical and versatile
SKS Germany has introduced two new multitool series: the MIA (Mini Assistant) for lightweight, sporty use, and the TOM (Tour Mechanic) for robust, versatile on-the-go repairs. Both are highly durable and practical for different situations during a ride.
The MIA models (MIA 8, 12) weigh approximately 58 g and 90 g respectively and provide basic functions for quick road or gravel rides. The TOM models (TOM 8, 11, 22) range from ~75 g to 122 g and include extra tools such as a chain tool and tubeless repair kit for longer trips.

The new multitools combine a compact format with high-quality materials. All tools (Allen keys, Torx, screwdrivers, etc.) are made from hardened chrome-vanadium steel. The housing is forged aluminium for low weight and strength. Both the MIA and TOM series feature rounded edges and ergonomic grip surfaces, making them comfortable to hold and safe to store in a saddlebag without sharp edges.
MIA series
The MIA series is explicitly designed for sporty riders where every gram counts, with a minimalist size: the MIA 8 measures just 56×25×12 mm and weighs 58 g. The TOM series is slightly wider and longer (71×34–51×12 mm) to accommodate more functions, while still remaining impressively flat and lightweight for its feature set.
As the model numbers suggest, each tool includes that number of functions. With each added function, weight naturally increases. The MIA 8 is the lightest version, offering multiple Allen key options to handle most mid-ride emergencies. It is ideal for fast rides where only basic adjustments are needed, such as fine-tuning a derailleur or tightening a bolt, without extra weight.
The MIA 8 does lack a flathead screwdriver, a 15G spoke key, and a chain tool suitable for 7–13-speed drivetrains. These are included in the MIA 12, which weighs around 90 g and measures 56×37×13 mm. This makes the MIA 12 a lightweight option for riders who want to carry more capability (such as chain repairs) while still keeping things compact.

TOM series
The TOM series (Tour Mechanic) is aimed at touring riders, commuters, and long-distance cyclists. Each model offers a more extensive feature set than a standard mini tool, while remaining exceptionally flat and practical.
The TOM 8 is the simplest TOM model, comparable in functionality to many standard multitools but with a solid aluminium shell. It is suited for daily rides and short trips where weight is still a concern, but basic tools are essential. The TOM 11 is a more advanced touring tool, suitable for bikepacking, offering extra security without sacrificing compactness.
The TOM 22 provides the full emergency kit: 22 functions — everything from the TOM 11 plus a bottle opener, two valve tools (Presta and Schwalbe Clik), five different spoke keys (12–15G plus Mavic), a chain tool for 7–13-speed drivetrains (including SRAM AXS), and two tubeless repair tools (plug and insertion tool). It weighs 122 grams, which is still relatively light considering the number of functions.
SKS Germany once again proves itself as a highly versatile multitool manufacturer, clearly understanding what road cyclists, gravel riders, and bikepackers at different levels need to carry. The MIA and TOM series are practical companions for every two-wheeled adventure.
