Up-and-coming Paula Blasi

When riding in La Cerdanya, it’s likely you’ll spot Paula Blasi, Catalan cyclist for UAE Team ADQ. Based in the region, she knows the terrain inside out: “For me, this is the best place to ride in Catalonia. Whether it’s long climbs, punchy ascents, or flat roads for time trials—La Cerdanya has it all.”

Blasi’s rise has been rapid. She joined one of the top women’s pro teams this year on a two-year deal, calling her first months “incredibly enriching.” Born in Esplugues de Llobregat and now living in La Cerdanya, she values the experience: “One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is trusting the team and learning from everyone around me. I’ve made huge strides already.”

Her breakthrough came with a 4th place at the Tour de l’Avenir Femmes—the U23 Tour de France. But racing La Volta a Catalunya was especially meaningful. “The second stage passed through my training roads. Climbing those same mountains with fans cheering made it unforgettable.”

She praises the local cycling culture: low traffic, great terrain, and strong community. “We greet each other on the road and often meet at the same spots. The passion here makes it ideal for both training and enjoying the ride.”

Blasi also highlights the importance of gear: “I feel lucky to use such great equipment. The ENVE wheels stand out—light, durable, and aerodynamic. They’ve made training more enjoyable and give us an edge in races.”

Her favourite route is the first long ride she ever did: 140 km with 2000 m elevation, from Puigcerdà to La Seu d’Urgell. “It’s not the most scenic, but it holds so many memories. It marks the start of my cycling journey.”

She once rode it with her twin brother, and they raced the final 4 km of the Port d’Envalira. “I attacked early, hoping to surprise him—but I forgot about the altitude. He’d been acclimating for weeks, and I’d just arrived. My legs gave out, he passed me, and I nearly threw up at the summit. We still laugh about it!”

These personal moments fuel her racing. Blasi says: “I truly believe there’s no better place to train, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
