Mireia Benito's favourite route in Catalonia
Quiet roads, beautiful sights, and vineyards everywhere. Mireia Benito’s favourite route starts next to her parent’s town: Llorenç del Penedès.
Benito’s favourite route is one of the first ones the Catalan professional used to do when she started cycling. “On the climbs, I could follow my progress,” she says, “and it is also a great route to do in summer because it is quite protected and not so warm. I have a lot of good memories from these roads.”
The professional cyclist from the Catalan women’s team Massi-Tactic says there are three climbs to overcome when she starts riding her favourite route from Llorenç del Penedès. “The first one is called Santa Cristina and is 3,3 kilometres long at 4,6% average. The next one is longer and smoother and is called Can Ferrer (11 kilometres, 3% aver- age). Finally, the last one is a climb of six kilometres, also at 3% average”.
A highlight on this route is, according to the Catalan cyclist, the descent to Sant Martí Sarroca. “It is really fast and really fun on nice roads with safe, but demanding corners. For me, this is the best road to come back home”.
