Are you a fan of big cycling challenges? Well, here is a serious one for you in Catalonia.
The Catalan cyclist Marcos Montero decided to organize Ride Across Girona. The first edition will be next August. He did not have to doubt too long about the ideal location for an ultramarathon of 700 kilometers.
I decided to take Banyoles as a starting point. I drew a route of about 700 kilometers, first going to the volcanic zone of La Garrotxa, and then reaching the maximum altitude at 2151 meters at Vallter 2000. From there we pass the Guilleries, the Costa Brava, and the famous road between Tossa de Mar and Sant Feliu de Guíxols. We then visit Les Gavarres, the Empordà and Cap de Creus.”
There is no easy ending, Montero warns. “We return to Banyoles via Sant Pere de Rodes. Just before arrival, the Alt de Rocacorba is the last test.” Ouch.
