A pro team bike check: Total Energies’ ENVE Melee bike setup
Following its creation in 2007, ENVE Composites quickly gained a reputation as one of the leading wheel and component manufacturers in the cycling industry. In recent years, ENVE has also launched its own brand of bikes, one of which is currently ridden by the French Pro Team TotalEnergies. It’s time for a bike check of the brand that has a strong connection to Catalonia, and Girona in particular.
2024 is proving a big one for ENVE, marking the first year that they have equipped a pro cycling team with their own brand of bikes, wheels, and components. ENVE delivers everything TotalEnergies requires to perform. From frame to wheels, from tires to handlebar tape – with the American brand, the French team is sorted from top to toe.
As part of its broad offering to the team, ENVE provides a range of options to cater for different conditions and individual rider preferences. ENVE specs the team with four different SES wheel options, seven different frame sizes and five fork rakes. Additionally, the riders of the team can choose between a wide range of different SES tire sizes thanks to the ENVE Melee’s superior tire clearance of 35 millimeters. Back when the Melee was launched in 2022, such a clearance had barely been seen before in (professional) road cycling. However, it turned out that ENVE was ahead of the game, and subsequently many other brands have followed suit by offering wider tire clearance on their framesets.
A 56cm Melee frame has a weight of 850 grams and is wind-tunnel tested for the best aerodynamics based on the latest research. Indeed, the weight and aerodynamics of the frame are two key reasons why Thomas Bonnet, Jordan Jegat, and Thomas Gachignard enjoy racing on the ENVE Melee.
