Oakberry’s açaí
In the market to be a new tasty recovery option for cyclists
New in Girona is the famous açaí brand Oakberry. After having opened shops in more than 45 places across the world, including Catalonia and Spain, Girona is one of their latest local markets to explore.
The açaí fruit has long been an important food source in the Amazon region of Brazil, where the native Açaí Palm tree grows. The açaí has become a popular option for athletes thanks to its many health benefits: it’s rich in potassium (supporting muscle repair and growth), calcium (for bone health), vitamin E (for lung health), and vitamin C (beneficial for recovery after rides), as well as containing fatty acids Omega 6 and 9, and a boost of antioxidants.
After trying Oakberry’s mid-sized açaí bowl on Carrer Juli Garreta, close to the train station, it is hard to describe and compare the taste. Of course, the toppings, like fruits, nut butters, and seeds speak for themselves; however, açaí berries taste quite unique. It probably differs per person, but the açaí relates to a mix of berries.
“Our organic açaí bowls with unlimited toppings are now part of the healthy lifestyle of millions of people in many countries, becoming even more prevalent among health-conscious individuals,” Matheus Guedea from Oakberry says.
In addition to their açaí bowls, Oakberry offers smoothies for after your training rides, protein bars during your training, and small bites for anytime during the day.
