Can Pericus: still a meeting point 100 years on
Can Pericus in Banyoles is 100 years old. Reason for a party! And an excuse to learn more about how their connection with cycling has evolved over the years.
What started as a tavern a century ago, has since developed into a gastrobar that has also become a hotspot for cyclists. “We’ve become a natural stop for many cyclists passing through the area”, says Quim Roqué, one of the owners of the culinary jewel in Banyoles. “Over the years, this bond has grown stronger, and today cycling is part of Can Pericus’ identity. We like to think of ourselves as a meeting point for everyone who sees cycling as a way to enjoy the landscape.”

Can Pericus currently have four locations in Banyoles:
- Can Pericus 1899, Plaça Major 11
- Can Pericus Delicatessen, Plaça Catalunya 2
- Can Pericus Gastrobar, Plaça Catalunya 3
- Can Pericus Pastry Workshop, catering and events, Carrer Llibertat 144
Cycling community
Roqué and his team have ambitions for the future, as well. “We’d like to expand the space and strengthen our connection to the cycling world by creating specific experiences; from areas designed for relaxing comfortably after a ride, to a food menu specifically adapted to cyclists’ needs.”
“And, of course, a generous slice of our cakes can’t be missing — it’s one of the best recoveries during and after a ride!”
“We also want Can Pericus to be a true meeting place and community hub, with events and activities that bring together gastronomy, design, and cycling.”
